The Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics World Summer Games on June 21st in Croke Park, Dublin, marked the beginning of the largest sporting event in the world in 2003. irelands own U2, riverdance, Arnold Swartzeneggar, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Farrell etc all appeared at the event witnessed by the 90,000 in the stadium.
U2 played "Pride" and "One love" with literally all the people in the stadium swaying in harmony giving a wierd mexican wave type effect. Really one of the most memorable moments that i'll ever get to see. The broadcast on RTE Television was viewed by an audience of over 1.5 million, making it the most watched broadcast in Irish television history. Considering ireland population is only 3 million, thats some achievement. |
